Man charged with reckless endangerment for Glens Falls fire

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The latest fire on Platt Street is just the latest in a string of them, but are they all connected? Police now say they might be.

“It’s very unusual, it’s been awhile since we’ve had a fire like this so it’s just kept us busy for the past week,” said Glens Falls Fire Chief, James Shramell.

It was the third fire in just a five day span.

It’s enough to raise an eyebrow.

On Friday, a fire on Culvert Street occurred.

The next day, another on Platt Street, putting lives at risk.

“There was one person home in the upper residence, and they were evacuating the residence as we arrived on scene. We assisted them down the stairs and they evacuated the residence,” said Shramell.

The fires are destroying homes like this.

“The second floor is heavily damaged by fire, the rear of the roof is collapsed. The entire second floor is heavily damaged,” Shramell said.

So, is there a common link?

It’s possible.

A man named Aditep White has been arrested in connection to the Culvert Street Fire.

He was a resident there.

Additional charges are pending.

He was a tenant living in the apartment building. There are additional charges pending.

In the meantime, the owner of the building is just trying to keep it all in perspective.

“I’m just happy that everybody got out,” said owner of the building, Joseph Goleson. “All of this material stuff is replaceable, but you cannot replace a life. On the good hand, none of the tenants upstairs got hurt. Yes, they probably lost a lot of stuff upstairs, but it is what it is. It’s life.”

Now to be clear, White is only arrested for reckless endangerment, not arson.

The investigation is still ongoing.
