GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Officials say this ex-teacher’s aide is going to jail after registering as a sex offender for sexually abusing a student when she was 14-years-old.
Kimberly Gittens was sentenced to three years in prison with seven years of post-release supervision. She will also be required to register as a sexual offender, authorities say.
On July 13, 2016, a Fulton County jury convicted Gittens, of Gloversville, with a criminal sexual act in the second degree following a three day trial.
The case stemmed from incidents that occurred between July 2009 and May 2010 in the City of Gloversville and the Town of Mayfield.
The now 21-year-old victim testified that Gittens sexually abused her when she was 14. Gittens was a teacher’s aide who was supposed to help the victim and that is how they came in contact.
The Gloversville Police Department conducted the investigation and arrested her on July 20, 2015.
Gittens will not only be jailed for her crimes, but will be under supervision for the next 10 years by Corrections and Parole.
Sadly, authorities say she showed no remorse for using her position of trust to take advantage of this child.
