Fans, friends, family turn out for Siena bball sneak preview

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Siena College basketball hosted a sneak peek of the men’s and women’s squads at the Times Union Center on Thursday.

Over the years, fans become faithful.

“The same people keep coming back,” senior forward Brett Bisping said.

And the faithful become family.

“A lot of these people are my friends now, so it’s different,” head coach Jimmy Patsos said.

Friends that were fans first. A night like the annual sneak preview can go a long way for the Saints.

“It’s just so much fun for our players, too,” women’s head coach Ali Jaques said. “To feel appreciated, to feel supported. You know, that’s why we work so hard every day: for our fans.”

So what do the fans have to look forward to?

With the women, a bigger, more experienced squad.

“They’ve been through it,” Jaques said. “They know what’s coming, and what I’ve been most impressed with is their preparation so far.”

On the men’s side, even more veterans are returning than the ladies, which is exciting for Patsos.

“This team’s primed because they’re nice and big,” he said. “We have to stay healthy, and we have to stay together.”

“I think every year is the year for us to get it done,” Bisping said. “That’s what you strive for – a MAAC Championship at Siena. And we’re gonna give it everything we got cause it’s a lot of our last go around.”
