ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Keeping kids in the classroom. That’s the name of the game for the latest campaign launched by the State Education Commissioner.

The campaign is called “Every Student Present” and it aims to help school leadership, parents, and communities promote school attendance.

Last year, President Obama launched a similar nationwide program called, “Every Student, Every day.”

The initiative addressed the issue and determined the reasons behind it.

According to a nationwide study, statistics show that 18 percent of all high schoolers are chronically absent and 11 percent of elementary students.

Meaning, they miss 15 days of school or more in a single school year.
