LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – New York State Police are warning the public about the latest scam where the caller threatens to harm a loved one if the receiver of the call doesn’t send them money.

Police say the common scam involves someone calling the victim and stating that their loved one has been involved in a motor vehicle accident. The callers are threatening in nature and usually request money to be sent to an area outside of the United States.

If the person doesn’t comply, the caller states the person involved in the accident will be arrested for the incident.
