NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police in North Greenbush are still investigating a motorcycle crash that happened earlier Thursday morning.
The call came in just after 10 a.m. when a motorcycle, driven by 70-year-old Harold Kalinchak, of Latham, N.Y., and a box truck, driven by 36-year-old Nathan Assanov, of Webster, Mass., crashed into each other on Route 4 in North Greenbush.
The crash had part of the road closed down into the afternoon.
Kalinchak was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Assanov was not injured in the crash.
Police were on scene for five hours after the crash reconstructing the scene.
One man who saw the accident happen, but didn’t want to be on camera, says he heard a scream before looking up and seeing the box truck making a left turn and the motorcycle heading in the other direction about to be hit.
The witness says it appears the driver of the motorcycle tipped over the bike in an attempt to avoid the crash.
