Mother and daughter ‘hit it off’ and get married after reuniting

DUNCAN, Okla. (CNN) – Police say a mother in Oklahoma married not one, but two of her biological children.

Wednesday, police arrested that mother along with her daughter for incest.

Investigators say 43-year-old Patricia Ann Spann and Misty Velvet Dawn Spann married earlier this year in Comanche County, Oklahoma, despite being mother and daughter.

The relationship was discovered in August while Oklahoma Department of Human Services investigators were investigating a complaint regarding two children in their home.

According to an arrest affidavit, Patricia Spann lost custody of Misty and two other children when they were young. The children were adopted by their paternal grandmother.

Patricia Spann allegedly told investigators that she didn’t have contact with Misty Spann until two years ago. When the two reunited, she said they “hit it off.”

Patricia Spann told officials she didn’t think she did anything illegal by marrying her daughter because her name is no longer listed on her daughter’s birth certificate, KFOR reported.

According to court records, Patricia Spann married one of her sons in 2008. That marriage was annulled in 2010.

Bond was set at $10,000 for both Patricia and Misty Spann. Their next court appearance is scheduled for next month.

In Oklahoma, incest is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Under Oklahoma law, marrying a close relative is considered incest whether or not a sexual relationship exists.
