TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – An Albany man pleaded guilty to an armed robbery at DeMeo’s Discount Liquor & Wine on Thursday.
Anton Gumbs, 35, was accused of entering the store just before it was set to close at 9 p.m. back in February, pulling out a gun and holding it near the owner’s head, and demanded money.
Gumbs was able to make off with approximately $6,000 during the robbery.
He was arrested in March and charged with 1st degree robbery.
“This violent felon belongs in prison. Today’s plea ensures that he remains there for a long time. We’re thankful that the victims were not harmed physically, as this could have been much worse,” Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove said.
As part of his plea, he will be sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years post-release supervision. He is scheduled to be arraigned in October.
