Woman rescues children from burning car after man backs into gas pump

FARMINGTON, Conn. (ABC NEWS) – Two cars were engulfed in flames and several others were damaged after a 70-year-old motorist crashed into a pump at a Connecticut gas station.

The fire was reported around 6:45 p.m. Monday at the Food Bag/Citgo station.

Police say the driver backed into the pump after accidentally hitting the gas instead of the brake. The impact tipped the pump onto another car and ignited the blaze.

In all, two cars were left completely burnt and three others were damaged. The flames also charred the canopy above the pumps.

Police say everyone had time to evacuate following the crash. No injuries were reported.

On Tuesday evening, police released surveillance video of the incident. Police say it took awhile to get the video because the power had been cut off at the gas station.

A woman could be seen pulling two children from the back seat of a car on the surveillance footage.

It’s unclear if the motorist will face any charges. An investigation is ongoing.
