Troy man charged with assault as “play fighting” leads to stabbing

TROY, NY (NEWS10) – At around 10:30 Saturday night, Troy Police got a report that two men were “play fighting” in an apartment on King Street.

At some point during the fighting, it became serious and 25-year-old Khreik Thomas grabbed a knife and stabbed the 26-year-old victim.

The man who sustained injuries was able to get onto the street and call for help.

Police and fire department personnel arrived to assist the victim. Patrol officers on scene quickly determined where the incident occurred and set up a perimeter on the location.

Officers on scene were able to get into the apartment and take Thomas into custody without further incident.

The victim was treated and taken to Albany Med for more treatment.

His injuries are considered serious.

Thomas was charged with one count of Assault in the 1st Degree, a class B Felony, and one count of Criminal Possession of a weapon 4th, a Misdemeanor.

Thomas was arraigned in Troy City Court Sunday morning and sent to Rensselaer County Jail.
