TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – News 10 has partnered with Make-a-Wish of Northeast New York for a new segment we’re calling ‘Wishes Come True.’
This month we’re introducing you to 17-year-old Donald Bulay. Donald’s a baseball fan and wanted to take the field with his favorite major league team. Here’s what his “wish granters” had in store!
“Houston, Texas. You’re going to Texas to throw out the first pitch! Congratulations!”
With a little help from manager Lamarr Rogers and the rest of the Valleycats, 17-year-old Donald Bulay found out his wish, to throw out the first pitch at an Astros game, had been granted. Earlier this month Donald and his family stepped out on to Minute Maid Park field for the big moment.
“I met all the players that played. Altuve, Rasmus, Corrrea. They lost, but it was a good game,” Bulay said.
Donald was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma back in January. Five rounds of chemo and radiation ended in June. While they haven’t been given the all clear yet, mom is still upbeat!
“We’ve got a couple more scans to do, but everything looks good and we’ve got finger crossed,” said Beverly Bulay, mother.
So when it came time to grant Donald’s wish, in typical make-a-wish fashion, nothing was left to chance.
“[We got] the limo at 4:00 in the morning to take us to the airport. The car rental, the plane tickets, the hotel, spending money. Everything, everything,” Beverly said.
Upstate New York natives, the Bulays have the Valleycats to thank for becoming Astros fans. Mom Beverly started following the boys from Houston when the cats set-up shop here.
