National Parks Service celebrates 100th anniversary

KINDERHOOK, N.Y. (NEWS10) – 100-years-old! That’s how old the National Parks Service is turning.

There are celebrations happening at parks all around the Capital Region, including Martin Van Buren Historic Site.

Starting at noon Thursday the public will be invited to come down for a visit an they are encouraged to bring the kids. There will be fun activities. Pony rides and 19th century themed games.

It was on this day in 1916 that the National Park Service began. A lot has changed since then, but parks are still the place we can go to escape and explore.

Gates open at the Martin Van Buren Historic Site at 7 a.m.
