SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The 2016 Saratoga High School football team looks a lot different than the one that won the Section II Class AA Super Bowl and advanced to the state title at the Carrier Dome.
Graduation left the Blue Streaks with only two starters from last year’s championship squad: offensive lineman Kevin Toot and middle linebacker Eric Stone. As a result, the competition is wide open for starting spots except at the quarterback position.
Head coach Terry Jones already named Wes Eglintine the starting signal caller this season. The junior has been coached in the offseason by his older brother and former Saratoga QB Jake Eglintine. He also learned some valuable lessons last year from his predecessor Brian Williams.
“He was a good leader, and he taught me to just take control of everyone on the team,” Wes said. “You gotta put them under your hood and just lead them, I guess, to some wins.”
“Wes, he’s not a big vocal guy out here on the field, but he’s gonna lead by example,” Jones said.
Wes will lead the Blue Streaks into Albany on Saturday, September 3 for the season opener against the Falcons.
