COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Volunteer firefighters from around the state held their annual training day in the Capital Region.
Dozens of firefighters gathered at the Colonie Training Center to practice for major accidents like car crashes where heavy lifting is needed.
The firefighters responded to a staged crash and were able to sue all their skills, including equipment and communication.
It’s an important part of their training to continue to develop skills and work with some new equipment.
“We don’t see a lot of these tractor trailer and vehicle accidents in our jurisdiction. This is so much easier to do it on a training site,” Jay Wilson, of the Training Education Commission, said. “They’re going to use some equipment they’ve never touched before.”
The training highlights the skills needed when they’re called to an emergency at a moment’s notice.
