SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The biggest news surrounding horse racing came outside the track gates Friday morning.
The 2016 Horse Racing Hall of Fame Induction ceremony took place.
2009 and 2010 Horses of the Year Rachael Alexandra and Zenyatta, trainer Steve Asmussen and Jockey Ramon Dominguez headlined this year’s class.
Highlighting Rachel Alexandra and Asmussen, Rachel won the Kentucky Oaks and Preakness back in 2009 and the famous Woodward Stakes here in Saratoga.
Asmussen was her trainer along with Curlin who was also the two time Horse of the Year and Hall of Famer.
He says the horses have done something for him he couldn’t do for himself.
“It’s just a very proud moment for my family. For me to be given this honor, it’s dependent upon so many people who have so much support. It’s there accomplishments as well as mine.”
