NEW YORK (AP) — Police say a 49-year-old man has been killed after a man grabbed a New York City police officer’s gun and opened fire before another officer shot and wounded the shooter.
The incident unfolded just after 1 a.m. Tuesday in a Bronx bodega.
Police say two officers confronted a 30-year-old man who was being disruptive inside the store. When officers tried to escort him outside, police say a struggle ensued and the man got ahold of an officer’s gun.
Authorities say he shot the bodega’s owner, who was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Police say the second officer opened fire, striking the shooter in his torso. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. His condition isn’t known.
The names of the bodega owner and the wounded man haven’t been released
