GREENPORT, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A man is recovering in the hospital after police said he threatened to set his house on fire.
The incident took place late Wednesday night at a home on Middle Road in Greenport.
Police said the 28-year-old man was suicidal after his girlfriend left him, so he barricaded himself in his home and asked to be shot by police. Authorities negotiated with the man, but they had to Taze him twice. He still did not come out.
According to police, the man broke some windows and cut himself. When police and EMTs tried to help him, the man attempted to flee the scene, police said.
The man was caught and taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital under the Mental Health Law.
