SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – According to the Scotia-Glenville school district, the victim who was hit and killed by an Amtrak train was 16-year-old Morgan Bowers.

Police said Bowers was with two of her friends who were not hurt. The train was traveling from Niagara Falls to New York City when it struck the girl Tuesday in Scotia.

Neighbors that live near the tracks said they see people cross them almost every day. They said they hope this incident will bring awareness to the town in addressing this issue.

“I hear the conductor to let you know he’s there even though we’re way off the track but when I heard the long constant horn and it didn’t stop, no brake, I knew something was up,” said Julie Summers.

Morgan was going to begin her senior year in September.

Counselors will be available at the high school beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday for any students or staff members who wish to stop in.
