ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Albany detectives found a butane marijuana extraction lab following a search warrant on Dove Street.
Around 7:30 p.m. Friday, police responded to a garage in the area of Jefferson Street and Dove Street for a report of a strong odor coming from the building. Unsure of its source, police requested the assistance of the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team.
The garage bay was being rented by Robert Simone-Kelly, of Dove Street. While speaking with the 29-year-old, police said detectives smelled a similar odor coming from his apartment.
Following a search warrant of the garage and Simone-Kelly’s apartment, detectives recovered several bottles of butane that they said was being used to create butane marijuana extraction labs for the purpose of extracting oil from marijuana.
Simone-Kelly was also found in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and two counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree.
Simone-Kelly was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail.
