TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – People in one local city teamed up with police to help connect the community and law enforcement.
Events were held in several Capital Region communities on Tuesday for National Night Out, including Guilderland, Cohoes and Troy.
National Night Out is an annual community building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to make communities safer.
“A lot of times, kids are afraid of officers, and we try to show the other end of it,” National Night Out Troy organizer Jane Snay said. “A lot of times, people won’t walk up to an officer on the street and say anything. But we have found out over the years, we will walk up to them here, and the officers talk to them and mingle with the crowd.”
National Night Out has been going on across the nation, as well as in Canada and U.S. military bases overseas, for 22 years.
