COHOES, NY (NEWS10) – Former Cohoes Mayor George Primeau was laid to rest on Wednesday.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Holy Trinity Wednesday morning.
Friends, family, co-workers, and members of the community gathered to share hugs and fond memories.
Primeau led the city he was born and raised in for three years.
While he had every intention of seeking re-election, he had no choice, but to drop out of the race to battle cancer.
More than a a mayor and councilman, Primeau will be remembered by many as a friend, a mentor, a Little League coach, and longtime owner of Primeau’s Autobody.
He leaves behind his wife and three sons.
A friend of his wife shared a sweet story of how the two met:
“I’ve known his wife for a long time. We used to walk by where he used to work. He would talk to us and wave and whistle at her way back then. She would be shy and put her head down with her long blonde hair and he said to somebody, ‘I’m going to marry that girl some day.’ And then they got together. They’ve been married for 43 years, he was the love of her life,” Kathleen DeCarlo said.
Primeau will be buried at Saint Joseph’s in Waterford.
