SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – It’s something many people look forward to every single year, opening day at the Saratoga Race Course.
“I mean it’s Saratoga. I live for this. It’s the best 40 days of the year and wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Well, maybe there is one exception.
“2006 Opening Day, the night before my wife went into labor, so we didn’t make it that year, but every year since.”
People from all over come and setup camp hours ahead of time to make sure they get a table.
This year, security pulled back on the reigns, allowing only one person in at a time. Officials warned that running was prohibited.
It’s a new rule that didn’t go over well.
“I didn’t like it, safer I guess.”
“I call it a controlled chaos.”
Some say it ruined a decade’s long tradition of rushing the gates.
Really all that matters is everyone in line found a spot and are ready for another year of making memories and hopefully some money.
