SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – It’s a long-awaited tradition not just for Saratogians, but for people from all over: opening day of the track season!
Businesses along Broadway in Saratoga also look forward to track season, because many of them see a boost in their sales.
Broadway is typically a high trafficked area on a regular day, but come opening day, it sees double the amount of people and cars.
The Saratoga Race Course brings in people from not just around the country, but around the world.
One of the busiest stores on Broadway is Hatsational, where people can pick up any kind of hat imaginable to hit up the track.
“This is our Christmas season,” says Joyce Locks, the owner of Hatsational, a hat store on Broadway. “This is like Black Friday for us.”
Locks says she loves seeing the excitement on customers’ faces when they walk into her store and see something they’ve never seen before.
For many track-goers, Hatsational is their number one stop before they make their fashion statement at the track.
“Oh, it’s crazy. It’s not just hats, It’s hat fascinators, toppers, it’s for men and women,” says Locks.
Further down the street a story selling cowboy boots and bright-colored outfits is seeing a lot of foot traffic.
“It always the kickoff of the summer boost,” says Lynn Scott. “We get all types of people coming in from all over the place, and they come from all over the world actually.”
