COEYMANS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police have identified the bodies that have been found after a boat capsized on a body of water in Coeymans Thursday night.
It was around 1 p.m. when New York State Police divers zeroed in on one spot at Lawson Lake. Their sonar detected the bodies of 52-year-old Michael Marshall and 51-year-old Audley Sealy, who were fishing on the lake Thursday night.
The boat capsized on the lake around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Pastor Tre Staton says one of the men attended his church, Empire Christian Center. He wanted to be at the scene when the bodies were recovered so he could notify the family.
The men were found about 26 feet from shore, about 200 feet from the spot where their boat capsized. When they were located, they were under 9 feet of water.
Divers had little to no visibility under water, which is why using the sonar boat was crucial during the recovery. Divers also found a cooler and fishing gear.
“Sad moment for the county,” Dan McCoy said. “We lost two family members. It’s a sad moment for the families.”
Now Pastor Tre is trying to help those families get through this difficult time.
Marshall worked for the County Highway Department and Sealy for the County Sewer Department.
No word on when the lake will reopen. Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says they will do a toxicology report.
