Albany County inmate accused of spitting, punching officer in face

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Authorities say an inmate is accused of spitting at corrections officers and punching one in the face.

Police say on Friday July 8, 21-year-old Charles Elderkin, an inmate at the Albany County Correctional Facility, refused to follow directions of Corrections Officers and began to physically fight with Officers.

They say Elderkin began spitting on Corrections Officers and punched a Corrections Lieutenant in the face. The Corrections Lieutenant required medical attention and received several stitches for his injuries.

Elderkin is being charged with Assault in the second degree, a felony.

Police say he was arraigned in the Town of Colonie Court and remanded back to the Albany County Correctional Facility with no bail.
