GRANVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Granville firefighter is facing rape charges after police say he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a 15-year-old girl.
According to Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Justin Martindale, 26, of Granville.
The arrest is the result of an investigation into allegations that Martindale had an “inappropriate” relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Police say the investigation revealed that Martindale had met the 15-year-old at a dance held at the Granville Hook and Ladder fire department.
The Hook and Ladder regularly hosts fund-raiser dancers for area teenagers.
Police say Martindale is a member of the Hook and Ladder and had volunteered to chaperone at the dances.
Martindale is alleged to have had sex with the 15-year-old on two separate occasions.
He has been charged with two felony counts of Rape in the Third Degree.
He was arraigned in the Granville Town Court and released.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
