PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was arrested and is in jail after Virginia State Police caught her speeding three times within an hour Sunday.
At 7 a.m., police say Trooper N.S. Rife was operating radar on Interstate 81 in Pulaski County and spotted 21-year-old Kai Kitchen, of Los Angeles, California, traveling 93 miles per hour. The posted speed limit in that stretch of I-81 is 70 miles per hour.
Trooper Rife pulled Kitchen over and cited her for reckless driving. She was released on a summons.
At 7:41 a.m., Trooper Rife again saw Kitchen speeding. This time, police say she was going 97 miles per hour.
Kitchen was cited for reckless driving a second time and was released on a summons.
At 8 a.m., Trooper M.R. Overholt was operating radar on I-81 in Pulaski County when Kitchen drove past at 94 miles per hour. The posted speed limit on this stretch of 70 miles per hour, police say.
The third time Kitchen was caught speeding, she was taken to the New River Regional Jail to appear before a magistrate, who issued an arrest warrant for misdemeanor reckless driving.
Kitchen was then taken into custody by the jail. She’s listed as unbondable and is expected in court on Wednesday.
Kitchen’s mother said online that her daughter was leaving the Hampton Roads area to drive back home to L.A. after recently graduating from Hampton University.
