Police: Glens Falls Woman struck by boat propeller on Hudson River

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a Glens Falls woman is hospitalized after she fell off a boat in the Hudson River and was struck by its propeller.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at about 4 p.m. Tuesday about a mile north of a boat launch in Queensbury.

Authorities say the accident occurred when a 1991 Stratos 19-foot open-bow boat operated by 32-year-old Amy Purner of Glens Falls struck the wake of a passing boat. Purner turned sharply which managed to toss 51-year-old Roberta “Bobbi” Viger, of Glens Falls out of her seat in the front of the boat.

Viger was then struck by the boat’s propeller before being rescued by the boat’s other passengers. Viger was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital, but her condition wasn’t immediately available.

Police say no one else was injured and no tickets have been issued.

The incident was investigated by members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division. The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by West Glens Falls Fire and West Glens Falls Emergency.
