SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A hearing was held Tuesday to discuss raising the age to buy tobacco products in Schenectady County.
Both supporters and opponents flocked to the county legislature meeting room to make their voices heard. The age to buy cigarettes, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes and vaporizer would increase from 18 to 21 if a new law is imposed.
“Please don’t get on this bandwagon of no common sense and decide to maintain the legal age for buying tobacco at 18, and use your energies to continue to educate young people about the dangers of smoking,” one woman said.
Albany County put a similar law in place in May.
