LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A teenage girl is in a coma at Albany Medical Center after falling 20 feet from a ledge at an abandoned hospital Monday night.
The girl, 17-year-old Victoria Brothers, was rushed to the hospital after she reportedly fell at the old Leonard Hospital building in Lansingburgh.
She with a group of friends when she fell.
It may have been a sense of curiosity that drew Victoria and possibly her friends to the hospital late at night on the 4th of July.
Victoria was rushed to the hospital and is being treated for severe brain trauma.
On Tuesday, her family came to the abandoned hospital to piece together what happened. The family found the ledge where she likely tumbled off after finding evidence of her clothing on the ground.
Victoria’s sister found what appeared to be blood and she wants to know why the decades-old abandoned building is left bordered up, but unsecured.
This isn’t the first time someone has left the hospital in an ambulance.
Many fear the shape of the building remains the same and it won’t be the last time either.
Currently Troy Police are investigating the incident.
Leonard Hospital has been the site of other trouble over the years including vandalism, squatters, and teen parties.
The building has been owned by the City of Troy since 2012. Troy Mayor Patrick Madden says some people have expressed interest in the building, but it’s in bad condition and says the whole building needs to come down.
So far, no one wants to do that. The City is looking for resources in the form of grants.
