SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Saratoga Race Course opens for the 2016 season in just over two weeks.
Trainers are using the time ahead of opening day to transition to the Spa City. Todd Pletcher has set up his headquarters on the Oklahoma track.
The six-time reigning Saratoga Training Title champion said the key for his success at the Spa is the 2-year-old crop. They’ve done well for him so far this year.
They’ve won a few early stakes races at Belmont, which can be a good indicator. But Saratoga is a different animal.
“Obviously, Saratoga will be very competitive, and a lot of good 2-year olds from all over the country will be running here,” he said. “So we’re optimistic right now, but the next couple weeks will tell us a lot as we get into some serious workouts.”
