COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police arrested a man they say struck his niece with a cane.
Safder Ali, 58, was arrested on charges of 2nd degree felony assault and 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon after patrol officers were called to a home on Ahl Ave.
Police say Ali’s 21-year-old niece, who lives at the address, claimed Ali got into the middle of an argument she was having with her parents by allegedly striking her on the back of her legs with a cane.
Police say the victim suffered bruising, but denied medical attention at the scene. According to police, the victim is not cooperating with investigators.
Police say she told them Ali made a comment that he “would fix what her parents couldn’t.”
At his arraignment today, Colonie Town Court judge Hon. Norman Massry placed Ali’s bail at $10,000 and issued a “stay away” order of protection for the victim.
