10th annual wrestling clinic with Oklahoma State ends at Nisky HS

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – For the past few days, about 100 kids have packed the wrestling room at Niskayuna.

The Journeymen Wrestling Club wrapped up its 10th annual clinic Wednesday afternoon.

For the past three days, the Oklahoma State Wrestling Program has been sharing its secrets. The Cowboys are 34-time national champions and have won more titles than any other college in the country.

Current head coach and two-time Olympian John Smith was on hand Wednesday. He said the level of competition looks as good as ever in the Capital Region.

“There’s a reason we keep coming up here, and it’s not just to help kids but also to get some kids,” he said. “I’ve recruited this area, and of course, I had Pat Popolizio, the head coach of North Carolina State, from this area wrestle for me. We’ll always be looking. You always got your eye on someone.”
