Police: Mariaville car fires caused by arson, shots fired reports remain unfounded

MARIAVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – New York State Police say the car fires in Mariaville were caused by arson.

At around 10:30 p.m. Monday, New York State Police were called to Mariaville Scotch Churches Road (Route 160) for reports of vehicles on fire.

Troopers say they found fully engulfed vehicles when they arrived.

Police say troopers conducting interviews with neighbors and potential victims of the fires, they heard reports that a shot or shots were fired in the area during the time of the fires. Police say they have not been able to confirm this occurred and further investigation is needed to confirm those reports.

No one was injured in the incident and police say there is no danger to the general public.

Police say no one was arrested and the incident is still under investigation.
