WATERVLIET, N/.Y. (NEWS10) — The Watervliet Fire Department confirmed multiple fire departments responded to a large, 3 alarm warehouse fire on Broadway in Watervliet around 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
According to the Watervliet Fire Department the responding fire departments were Watervliet, Watervliet Arsenal, Cohoes, Green Island, Troy, and Albany Mutual Aid.
According to the Watervliet Fire Chief Robert Conlen, at one point the entire warehouse was in flames. He believes the fire started on the North side of the building.
One side wall of the warehouse nearest to several neighboring homes even collapse, although the fire did not spread to any neighboring buildings.
Fire Chief Conlen says no one was injured in the fire, residents or firefighters.
Witnesses at the scene are reported loud booms from inside the warehouse.
Fire officials are still investigating a cause, and don’t yet know if foul play was involved.
Fire Chief Conlen says one of the challenges of putting out this fire is they have a lot of hoses, but a limited supply of water.
“We’re taxing the water system pretty good at this point,” said Chief Conlen Saturday evening. “As it stands right now, we still have five or six big lines throwing water.”
The Chief says as of 11:00 p.m. Saturday there is still a lot of fire in the building and fire crews could remain on scene through the day Sunday.
The situation is still developing. News10 will bring you updates as they are received.
