HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) – During Free Fishing Days/Weekends, no one needs a license to fish in any of the 7,500 fresh water lakes and ponds in New York this weekend.
That means there is enough room for any and every one to cast their pole.
“They have a little wiggle to ‘em and a little Sentricon, and they are just phenomenal, phenomenal bait,” Kevin Ryan, Owner of Hudson Bait and Tackle, said.
Live bait, a tool only a few local bait and tackle shops in the Capital Region still stock. Thousands of novice anglers will be casting poles into the water all over the state this weekend.
Ryan recommends taking your hook and coming up through the bottom of the reel, right around the second segment, and coming out through the top.
“It’s going to be a natural presentation. Small mouth bass and largemouth bass love ‘em.”
Titus, Ryan’s 9-year-old fishing dog loves belly rubs. Ryan says that if you don’t have a dog to take with you this weekend, take a friend or family member and introduce them to the lifestyle of fishing. You never know, they may get hooked.
“I grew up fishing ever since I was able to walk. My father was an avid fisherman. My uncles took us on those weekend journeys so it just stuck with me the rest of my life.”
The next two free fishing weekends are November 11 and February 18-19 2017.
