ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Representatives for the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge presented a check for $28,589.78 on Thursday to Girls on the Run Capital Region, and Schenectady ARC, the 2016 charities of choice for the charity road race and fitness event.
As part of the annual charity fundraiser, the 10,000 race registrants were encouraged to make a donation to either of the charities of choice when they signed up. Additionally, the T-shirt company All U, Inc, donates a percentage of their sales to the race charities each year.
This year, Girls on the Run Capital Region and Schenectady ARC will share $28,589.78.
Girls on the Run Capital Region, uses running and other physical activities to teach girls grades 3-9 how to live an “emotionally healthy and physically active lifestyle.”
The organization will use their share of the donation for its Lace Up for Girls! scholarship fund and to provide sneakers for participants in need.
Schenectady ARC helps more than 1,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Capital Region lead more meaningful and productive lives.
Money from the donation will benefit several of Schenectady ARC’s wellness initiatives and healthy life-style programs.
The CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge is also a major fundraiser for the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club. The funds help underwrite many of HMRRC’s college scholarships, grants, and running clinics including the Just Run Program that encourages grade school children to run for exercise and fun.
I am delighted by the outpouring of support each year,” said John D. Bennett, MD, president and CEO, CDPHP. “It proves that the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge goes beyond running. The race fosters a sense of camaraderie, caring, and team spirit.”
