Soldier who died in Fort Hood training accident laid to rest

KILLEEN, TEXAS (NEWS10) – One of the soldiers who died in a Fort Hood training accident was laid to rest on Friday.

Nine soldiers died in that accident that happened two weeks ago after their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters.

Staff Sergeant Miguel Colon Vazquez was buried at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

One of his friends reflected on his kindness.

“He’d give his shirt off his back. I’ve seen him do it; he gives his last couple of dollars in his wallet to a homeless veteran. He loved his family. He loved everybody he met,” said SSG Perrin Gori.

Fort Hood officials said it will be awhile before they can release any information on the accident.
