Police chase turned deadly after driver thrown from dirt-bike

MIDDLEBURGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Middleburgh man died after a traffic stop turned into a deadly police chase Friday night.

New York State Police say on Friday night around 7 p.m., a Schoharie County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop of an unregistered dirt-bike in the Village of Middleburgh.

Police say the driver of the dirt-bike, Joshua Camp, failed to comply and instead drove away. Police initiated a pursuit.

Police say the brief pursuit ended on the lawn behind a home on Grieble Lane, where Camp lost control of the dirt-bike and and was thrown from the bike. He was then hit by the pursuing Deputy’s marked patrol vehicle.

Camp was treated at the scene and then flown to Albany Medical Center, where according to police he died from his injuries.

The Troop G Collision Reconstruction Unit and Cobleskill BCI, in consultation with the Schoharie County District Attorney’s office, are continuing the investigation into the incident.
