FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Hudson Falls woman is making leaps and strides toward getting her life back after not being able to walk in over a decade.
Carol Davis is walking – something she thought she may never be able to do again. A snow mobile accident in 2000 left her severely injured.
“I actually heard the snap, so I knew something serious had happened I just didn’t know what,” she said.
Davis broke her back in the accident, and it left her with very little feeling and ability to move from the waist down. At the age of 26, Davis began to relearn almost everything.
“In your mind, you think, ‘Well, I can do that; I’ve always done it,’” she said. “But you have to find a new way, and there’s always a new way.”
Now, at 42, Davis has done just that. She’s walking the furthest she has in 16 years after joining a CrossFit gym six weeks ago.
“Carol has one of the sunniest dispositions of anyone who’s ever worked with us,” Underwood Park CrossFit co-owner Michael Plank said. “She always has a smile on her face.”
Plank adapted his boot camp class to fit Davis’s needs, and she’s gotten stronger. Davis said she never gives up because it’s not her nature.
“I don’t like no; I don’t want to take that as an answer,” she said. “I want to be able to do what everybody else can, and I want to be better for my daughter.”
Her 9-year old, her husband, and of course, her trainer couldn’t be prouder.
“Her attitude and her inner strength is really inspiring to us all,” Plank said.
Davis hopes her story will inspire others to get strong and healthy. She said if she can do it, then anyone can.
“You have to dig deep in yourself and find that place, but it’s there and there’s always a way to do it even if it’s not the traditional way that somebody else would,” she said.
For Davis, there’s not one, big goal in mind. She just wants to continue getting stronger each and every day.
