ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – We have a sad update to a boy’s journey NEWS10 ABC has been following since he was 4-years-old.
The boy, Ryder Snow has passed away according to his ‘Fight for Ryder’ Facebook page.
On Thursday the family wrote “Please say a prayer for Ryder and his family. He has taken a turn for the worse and is home right now comfortable with family and close friends!”
The next day this status was posted:
Ryder was originally from Florida. He came to the Capital Region in 2014 and 2015 to see snow for the first time and give back to a local organization.
In 2013 he was diagnosed with a rare and incurable brain tumor known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG. He was given 9 months to a year to live.
“Some people have gone longer, but they’ve given us 9 months to a year. I’m not thinking about it. He’s happy. As long as he’s happy,” said his father, Michael.
Ryder and his father got the chance to go skiing at Willard Mountain. Ryder Also came to NEWS10 ABC so we could interview him ourselves.
Ryder also held a fundraising event for Maddie’s Mark Foundation, a local non-profit organization.
“Last time we came up they gave us money and bought tickets for us to come up. So, we want to give back to her,” said Michael.
Maddie’s Mark Foundation was founded in 2012 after Maddie Musto passed away from the same cancer Ryder has. Since then, Maddie’s Mark has been giving what they call “Best Days Ever” for children suffering from major illnesses.
Ryder’s dad said his son received treatments to slow the growth of the tumor, but his main focus was to make his son happy.
