ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Albany Police Department published a video outlining tips to surviving an active shooter event.
Since 2013, the Albany Police Department in conjunction with the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Program at Texas State University is helping train officers and fire/EMS services across the Capital Region.
The training helps prepare first responders to dangerous active threat situations.
According to the Albany Police Department, individuals can protect themselves during active shooter situations by Avoid (Run)/ Deny (Hide)/ Defend (Fight).
“We’ve seen that hiding and hoping isn’t a very effective strategy.”
