TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Troy man pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder for stabbing and killing his estranged wife Denise Gely.
According to the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office, in the early morning hours of November 23, 2015, David Campos, 46, confronted his wife in the hallway of her home and stabbed her to death in the presence of his children and a neighbor.
He was then accused of leaving the scene and leading Palisades Interstate Parkway Police in New Jersey on a lengthy high-speed chase.
In court, the DA’s office says Campos admitted to going to wife’s residence with the intentions of killing her.
“This tragedy has no good outcome, but we are glad that justice is served by the guilty plea of David Campos,” District Attorney Joel Abelove said. “Our hearts go out to Denise Gely’s children and family, who can hopefully receive some sense of closure. The Troy Police Department’s swift and diligent efforts contributed to the successful prosecution of Mr. Campos.”
Campos is scheduled to be sentenced at the end of July.
