COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Two people have been hospitalized after an SUV went barreling through an apartment building in Colonie.
Emergency crews have cleared out the scene, but the maintenance guys have moved in with a long day of repairs ahead.
A brown tarp is now hanging where the SUV went barreling through. That SUV has since been towed away and emergency crews have cleared the scene.
Officials say the crash happened at the complex, 2006 Central Ave. just before 3 a.m.
Police say the driver of a 2013 Ford Flex had a medical emergency and crashed into Apt. 115. The driver was taken to Albany Medical Center by Colonie EMS where he is being evaluated.
The person who lived at Apt .115 was transported to St Peter’s by Colonie EMS and is being treated for a non-life threatening head injury. The driver is also a resident of the complex.
The Colonie Police Traffic Safety unit is continuing with the investigation.
The town building inspector has deemed the building stable and it is now in the hands of maintenance crews who have a long day of repairs ahead of them.
When NEWS10 first arrived on scene the SUV was inside the apartment.
Midway fire Chief Robert Sammons tells NEWS10 when crews got here they found the driver had gotten himself out of the vehicle and was walking around deliriously inside that apartment. Also, another man was lying on the floor yelling for help.
The apartments on either side and above were evacuated while crews were evaluating the building, but the building was deemed safe and they have been allowed back in.
