New York state to spend $10M on airport improvements

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Twenty airports around New York state will receive some piece of $10 million in new state funding.

The money, which was announced Wednesday, will pay for projects including upgrades, hangar expansions, new fueling equipment and other projects intended to improve the facilities.

The airports receiving the funds competed for the state grants.

Elmira Corning Regional Airport in Chemung County will receive $1 million, the largest single grant, to pay for the relocation of existing fuel facilities.

In announcing the grant awards, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo said airports serve not only as gateways but as key economic centers throughout the state.
