Westchester county man seriously injured in ATV crash

STONY CREEK, NY (NEWS10) – According to police, a man from Westchester County was seriously injured Friday night when he crashed an ATV into a tree on West Stony Creek Road.

48-year-old Joseph Mahoney of Yonkers went off the road near Wolf Pond Road and hit a large tree. According to Warren County Sheriff’s, Mahoney was thrown from the Yamaha Grizzly 660 all-terrain vehicle shortly after 8:50 p.m.

Mahoney was taken to Glens Falls Hospital and later taken to Albany Medical Center with what police considered life-threatening injuries. His condition was not available Sunday morning.

Police said Mahoney wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and excessive speed appeared to be a cause for the accident.

The Sherriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation.

The Stony Creek Fire Department and Stony Creek and Luzerne-Hadley emergency medical squads responded to the scene.
