ATLANTA, G.A. (NEWS10) – A Georgia teen is facing criminal charges after crashing her car and severely injuring another driver while allegedly using Snapchat behind the wheel.
The criminal charges come after 19-year-old Christal McGee allegedly aimed to hit 100 mph in her Mercedes while using Snapchat’s popular speed filter.
The victim has spent weeks in a coma. His family says he suffered permanent brain damage because of the crash. They are suing the teen and Snapchat for negligence and hardship.
Snapchat told ABC News, “We actively discourage our community from using the speed filter while driving, including by displaying a “do not snap and drive” warning message in the app itself.”
