Man that caused Schenectady stand-off charged with attempted murder

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Schenectady Police Department has filed additional charges against Rafael Gonzalez, the man arrested after a standoff on James Street Wednesday.

Detectives have charged Gonzalez, age 24, of Schenectady, with one count of Attempted Murder, a felony and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a felony.

Detectives say on April 24 Gonzalez, while at the intersection of Elm St and Becker St, shot a man in the stomach once with a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Gonzalez is currently being held in the city lockup and will be arraigned by the sitting judge.

Detectives do not plan on filing any additional charges against Gonzalez for his actions during the standoff.

The two other individuals who were in the apartment with Gonzalez were questioned and released.  The identities of the man and woman will not be released as they have not been charged with a crime.
