Lawmakers work to stiffen and enforce “Kirby and Quigley’s Law”

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Members of the assembly joined a family who lost their pets during a burglary to push for “Kirby and Quigley’s Law”.

The law, named for two dogs shot and killed during a burglary in the Town of Florida in February would stiffen the penalty for harming a pet while committing a felony. It would make the punishment a two year jail term and a $5,000 fine.

The bill passed the senate in March has yet to make it to the house floor for debate.

Denise Krohn, the dogs’ owner, wants to see the bill passed. “What happened to my family and I…  will be protected,” she said.

Police are still searching for the burglars who killed the dogs.
