ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Albany Police Department was recently one of 15 departments selected to serve on the president’s new task force on Twenty-First Century policing.
As a member of the task force and role models for the 18,000 other police departments in the nation, Albany police will use a community oriented approach to respond to recent challenges faced by police. Albany Police Chief Brendan Cox said his department was already implementing many of the tactics laid out in the initiative.
“It’s truly a validation of what the department and the community have been doing all along here to make sure that we’re doing the best by making sure that we are not only providing public safety well but also proving those services that the community needs,” he said.
The lessons learned by the task force will result in a guide that can assist police departments nationwide.
